Residents in the area surrounding King Street Lorry Park are celebrating after Wiltshire Council finally agreed that the Lorry Park is in the wrong place and commissioned a survey to find a more suitable location.
Cllr Jon Hubbard, who has been campaigning for the Lorry Park to be moved on behalf of local residents described the decision as a “common sense decision that it has taken too long to make”.
The Wiltshire Councillor for Melksham South said “I called over 9 months ago for this lorry park to close. At last the Council have recognised that King Street is not a suitable location for the HGVs to park overnight and have agreed to look for a more suitable location.
“This is not the end of the fight, as we still have to find an alternative site and get the council to agree to commission it, but at least they now accept that there is a problem and are actively looking for a solution.
“For to long, for local residents it felt like they were being ignored and that they simply did not count. I am delighted that at last we are seeing real and positive action to solve this problem.
“We should have the results of this survey within 5 months and will then be able to identify a realisitic and long-term solution to this problem.”
