Melksham Forward Event a real success
Published on Thursday 3rd November 2011 by Jon Hubbard
This evening I attended the Melksham Forward event organised by the Area Board and Melksham Community Area Partnership. The event, held in the Assembly Hall, was attended by representatives from all areas of the Melksham community and gave people the opportunity to discuss how they felt services could be improved or delivered in the area.
I have to say that I was really impressed by the entire event and particularly the facilitators who worked so hard at making it a success.
I've just signed the petition to protect Youth Services
Published on Tuesday 18th October 2011 by Jon Hubbard
Often I have spoken and written about protecting our youth services. Today I was delighted to sign a petition calling for the Government to better protect the services as the potential impact of these cuts will be very serious.
I would urge you to also sign the petition - there's a link below together with the text of the petition.

Coalition Talk - What's all the fuss about?
Published on Thursday 14th April 2011 by Jon Hubbard
Today on BBC Radio Wiltshire, leader of Wiltshire Council Liberal Democrat Group, Jon Hubbard, spoke of the “fundamental difference in ethos” between the coalition partners in national government, in light of Vince Cable’s comments today.
“I don’t know what the fuss is about, to be quite honest.” Jon said.
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck - it’s a duck
Published on Monday 7th February 2011 by Jon Hubbard
In May voters will get the chance to back a new and fairer voting system: the alternative vote.
Unfortunately, the BBC is failing to provide a fair debate around the referendum, and is even implementing Orwellian style censorship.
I have co-signed a letter the BBC demanding that they reverse their ridiculous guidance on banning the word "reform" in reference to the referendum.

Lib Dems condemn short-sighted approach to Wiltshire car parking
Published on Wednesday 15th December 2010 by Jon Hubbard
Liberal Democrats in Wiltshire have condemned plans forced through by the ruling Conservative group at Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting in Trowbridge that removes free parking from almost every council owned car park in the county.
The plans to bring in a one-size-fits-all set of charging bands across the county mean that some residents will see the existing free parking cut, while others will see their charges double.

Millions are still missing out on free help from energy companies
Published on Thursday 9th December 2010 by Jon Hubbard
New research commissioned by the Home Heat Helpline (0800 33 66 99) has revealed that despite the hard economic times and the arrival of the Arctic weather conditions, millions of people are still missing out on free help with their energy bills because they don’t think the help being offered is meant for people like them,.
According to the research, there are 5.2 million households across the country that could claim free insulation grants from their energy companies, but despite the fact that people could typically save £260 a year on their energy bills, only 12% have actually claimed free help.

Pay Your Taxes George
Published on Thursday 9th December 2010 by Jon Hubbard
I've just signed a petition asking George Osborne to pay his fair share of taxes. It turns out he's using "legal" loopholes to get out of paying £1.6million in tax.
The Campaign for Fairer Votes
Published on Sunday 17th October 2010 by Jon Hubbard
The Coalition Government has pledged to hold a referendum on whether to introduce the Alternative Vote (AV) for elections to the House of Commons. This very simple change to our current First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) voting system can have a profound, positive and lasting impact on how we do politics in Britain.
The principle is a no-brainer: the winner in an election should need the support of a majority of the people.
Wiltshire Conservatives wasted half a million on saying everybody matters
Published on Sunday 17th October 2010 by Jon Hubbard
A Freedom of Information request made by the BBC has revealed the cost of rebranding Wiltshire Council (WC) when it swallowed up the local district councils.
Of all the new councils Wiltshire comes second in the expenditure league table after Central Bedfordshire, which is also Conservative controlled and which wasted just over half a million. Northumberland managed to go through the unitary process whilst spending less than £6,000 on re-branding.
